omschrijving

‘frame of reference’ was my graduation project at the Royal Academy of Art, the Hague.  The project and the accompanying essay ‘construeren van begip’ were an exploration on how we read images/objects: 

‘’looking at an image we perceive it as a whole and subsequently as a collection of separate elements. We look at form, colour, material, this is what the image consists out of, but simultaneously we recognise, associate and interpret.’’





I wanted to better understand what elements influence the way we approach or read an object and how this in turn influences the way we give meaning to that object or image.  

‘Ways of Seeing’ by John Berger and ‘Against Interpretation’ by Susan Sontag were the main influences for this work and essay.
